Does this post ring some bells, you know, like bring the image of the mermaid to mind? Half-humans in different life-form shape existed in mythology for so long, I guess ever since myths started! But who are we to deny people an opportunity to believe in what they want to believe?

This is a mythical half bird and half human-like creature that is present in both the mythologies of the Hindu and Buddhists. The creature is portrayed to have the body of a man and the wings of an eagle. This huge eagle is also said to be golden in color and big enough to block out the sun’s rays.

In and out of Hindu and Buddha mythology, I do not think there is any bird that is friends with the snake family. They are sworn enemies and even the little sparrow regards a snake with disdain!

It is respectfully referred to as the king of birds or the devourer of serpents and is often used as an amulet to protect one from snake bites and poison.

It is also said to feed exclusively on snakes just as an eagle does. It is believed that Lord Vishnu of the Hindu religion rides on this mythical form, which goes a long way to explain just how powerful Lord Vishnu is. In Buddhist mythology, this large bird feeds on prey. The bird is also said to be very intelligent and social too.

The actual size of the mythical eagle isn’t known but it is said to be huge compared to a mere human being and that a human can comfortably hide in the plumage of the wings. It is said to have a wingspan of at least a few thousand miles. It is said that the wings are so great that one flap of the mighty wings will flatten mountains by driving them into the sea or bring hurricane causing winds.

The “bird” is also said to have the ability to appear and disappear at will. Some can also change into human form in order to associate with humans. They have even been said to have sexual encounters with women when they are in the human form.

This eagle is said to be the sworn enemy of the Naga, a serpent-like creature, which it hunts. However, the Naga have learnt to deal with this by swallowing large stones so they become too heavy to carry off.

Don’t let this eagle bit dissuade you from Hinduism and Buddhism. They are religions of peace, honestly, very accommodative.

Can you trace the distance with the mythobird?
