PROFESsee is my title. I am the perpetual learner, in pursuit of knowledge, wisdom and truth. I derived my name from professor
Never has a scientific research been so disruptive and intrusive of conservative beliefs as the origin of species postulated by Darwin. It challenged, caused divisions, raised skeptics, and turned the world on its head. Its impact was seismic, almost breaking the Richter Scale. I could Imagine being alive when the book – On the Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection – came out. I would have surely gone into the bathroom to check my behind, for fear I haven’t fully made the shift into a Homo-Sapiens.
Darwin’s theory was anchored on these four principles: the non-consistency of species, the branching of evolution, evolution is gradual and that evolution was about natural selection. The non-consistency of species speaks of how species never stay the same over time because of the need to adapt to the environment and changing the climate. The branching of evolution says that all living things are of a single peculiar origin. The evolution is gradual principle say that evolution is a gradual process that can't be punctured. Finally, the last principle is also known as the “survival of the fittest” says that only the strongest or deadliest –whichever one does survive – evolves.
It is no wonder the theory challenged people’s belief. Prior to the release of Darwin’s origin of the species, the adopted belief had been all living things' creation by a supernatural being – God. But, here was Darwin proposing a theory excluding God from how living organisms had evolved. In fact, one of Darwin’s former mentors – Adam Sedgwick – wrote a letter to him in 1859 saying in it that, “some passages in your book…greatly shocked my moral state.” That was the concern of some, that the book was a threat to the present moral order that had existed.
Indeed, there were attempts to link Darwinism to all Hitler did. On the back cover of the book From Darwin to Hitler by Richard Weikart you will find this, “…much else were being proposed for those considered  racially or eugenically inferior by a variety of Darwinist writers and scientists, providing Hitler and the Nazis with a scientific justification for the policies they pursued …”
Even if one does not agree with evolution – especially that of tying human’s evolution to animals – there’s absolutely no doubt that Darwin’s book helped birth a new order of thought, especially in the sciences.
