Thinking of the eye, it is simply hilarious on one side and very serious on the other. Some people see it as a symbol of evil. To others, it means something else. And you thought that the eye was just that; the eye! There is more to it. The Eye has been used as a symbol of different things by different cultures in different timelines. It all depends with the culture and the era it is used at. During the ancient Germanic era, they used the Dragon Eye. This Dragon Eye appeared more a Y inside a triangle. It is a combination of two symbols where the Y stands for choice between the good and evil, while the triangle meant ‘treat’. In the ancient Egyptian culture, they had the Eye of Horus. It was a symbol of wrath, healing and protection. It represented the right Eye of Ra when it appeared as the udjat and in reverse it represented the left Eye of Thoth, the god of wisdom and magic. Additionally, in Egyptology the Eye had many representations. They also used the color of the Eye as symbol. It was used as the cosmogonic goddess. The cosmogonic goddess was a symbol of reunification and divine kinship. In Middle Eastern and North African cultures, the Hamsa Hand amulet has the symbol of the ‘evil Eye’. It is placed on the palm of the Hamsa Hand to represent the fear of the destructive energies which may come from envy, jealousy and negative emotions. It was used during the pre-historic times. This Eye symbol had numerous superstitions around it. Often the cultures of the ancient times used to create amulets and stones to offer protection against the evil Eye. In the dollar, there is the Eye of providence. This symbol represents the Eye of God an ‘all seeing Eye’. The ‘third Eye’ symbol is present in Buddhism and it represents the symbol of wisdom. Do you see now? Next time before you wear those contact lenses, think of how you could be altering the symbolic meaning of your eye. There is more to it than seeing, after all.
