Question is, even with this statue, are we liberal? Ask me and the answer is no, not with the IRS snooping around to know how much I earn and to cut their share out. However, the statue, as far as art is concerned is a marvel. This statue is a New York City monument located in the Manhattan harbor. It was given by France to the people of United States in 1886. The designer was called Frederic Auguste Bartholdi.
It was designated as a national monument much later in 1924. It has the date that the America gained its independence engraved on it. This is a symbol that is recognized all over the world as the United States symbol. It represents all the people who fled to get away from the oppression and persecution thus its bearing the name freedom.
It presented the symbol of independence to every immigrant that was coming to the country. Its intention was for the celebration of the centennial of the United States as an independent country. It is a woman who is dressed in robes and a broken chain lying on her feet. The right hand of the woman is holding a lit flame. The statue is made up of sheet copper and it is hung on a steel framework. The torch flame is gold leaf coated.
It has celebrated over hundred years from the time of the establishment of friendship recognition during American Revolution. Being a symbol for democracy and freedom, it has become a major attraction site to millions of tourists and locals flocking to New York City.
The statue’s interior is opened to the viewers. To get a perfect view, you need to climb the circular staircase with 354 steps. The crown can support about 30 people at a go. There are about 25 windows that offer a perfect view of the harbor. They represent the jewels in the diadem.  This statue is designed in a way that it is able to withstand all weather conditions.
Well, with the Obama immigration reform that is going on, we might see the statue living up to its name, of liberation from oppression. Don’t take my word for it though. You see, I am not American.

Can you Identify the statue on the map?
