Looking forward to a visit in the UK will give you a most thrilling experience. One thing though that you will be wondering about is how to address the gentle ladies and men of the UK. After all, there is Wales; there is England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. So do you refer to all of them as English, Welsh, Irish or … say, United Kingdomers? None of the above would fit them, but you have to refer to them as something, no? So many things dumbfound people in England, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying yourself. As punctual as clockwork! That phrase best describes the English way of life and therefore, if you are invited for dinner or something, brother, you had better be on time and there are no two ways about it. However, the English are real gentlemanly and therefore if you are a foreigner, you may be forgiven a few times. Do not make it a habit though. Then there are the incredible English customs! Ok, I know, they say that customs die hard, but these ones die hardest. In other words, they have simply refused to die. For example, there is the English afternoon tea. Most likely, this will be taken in true traditional English style. Actually, it is not just tea, but it is a tea party. Trust the English to give you your entertainment of a lifetime there, with tea of course. While in Mecca everything stops for prayer, in the UK, a long time ago, everything did stand still for the afternoon tea. Maybe it still does! Different parts of the UK rings different bells in the mind. For example, when people hear of Northern Ireland, they think of the famous traditional drink, the Guinness. When people hear of Scotland, they think of their cute kilts and when you hear of England, it is the afternoon tea. Many of the countries in the world today borrow elements of their culture from the English. Can you Assemble the UK? Image courtesy of: http://www.davidmillard.org/2009/01/ticket-to-ride-uk-map/ |
