I love Africa! In fact, I am African and down here, long ago, my ancestors used to do things, I mean, do things literally. If you were a chief and you died, they believed you were going on a long journey. You would need your stuff, and your servants! So in some cultures, they were buried alive, to serve their master on the long journey … to the afterlife. That rocks, really rocks no? And you say we learnt of eternity from the Bible, or the Quran? We all live and enjoy the finer things that life offers. Unfortunately, we all dread the day that we have to leave this world and how it will happen. However, we all have a belief that we hold dear to our hearts about the after life. It could be driven by the fear of disappearing forever of by the doctrines that we have in the society. Regardless of whether we believe in the afterlife or not, there is something we believe in. In Christianity, the teachings according to the Bible are that when someone dies, there is life after death and depending on how you lived on the face of the earth, you could be dining with the angels or dancing with the devil in hell. Christians believe that the moment the heart stops is not the end of life; in fact it is depicted as the start of eternal life for the righteous, and well, the start of barbequing for sinners in hell. In Hinduism and Buddhism, there is the belief that one can get trapped in the cycle of death and rebirth which is simply referred to as reincarnation. While the rest of the world views reincarnation as an awesome thing, those who practice these religions believe that it is an unhappy cycle that needs to be broken for them to be liberated. In spiritualism, there is a belief that life after death depends mainly on how you lived on earth. According to their beliefs, there are vibration realms that people will go to when they die. The realms start from low vibrations to high with the highest being the happiest place to be. It is clear that most cultures and religious groups have some kind of belief of life after death and have it all figured out about how that period will be.
